Kids skateboards – how to find the right board
A skateboard for kids needs to be one thing above all: safe and the right fit. Boards from the toy aisle may look similar, but they break easily, roll poorly and make learning unnecessarily hard. That's why Little Boards builds real skateboards in pro quality – simply scaled down for kids: lighter, narrower and with softer wheels.
Which skateboard size for which age?
| Age | Height | Deck width | Matching boards |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3–5 years | up to approx. 100 cm | 6.5″ | Skateboards 3–5 years |
| 5–8 years | approx. 100–130 cm | 7.0″ | Skateboards 5–8 years |
| 8–11 years | from approx. 130 cm | 7.25″ | Skateboards 8–11 years |
For the youngest riders there are also wider kids' cruisers (8.0″) – extra stable for those very first rides. Our guide "Finding the right skateboard size for your child" walks you through age, height and shoe size step by step.
What makes a good kids skateboard?
- 7-ply maple deck – sturdy yet flexible, just like full-size pro boards
- Real aluminium trucks – steerable and adjustable instead of rigid plastic
- Soft wheels (83a/85a) – quiet and safe, even on rough paths and small pebbles
- Kid-sized dimensions – narrower decks, shorter wheelbase and less weight for short legs
At what age can kids start skating?
Kids can start with simple balance exercises from around age 3 – always supervised and with full protective gear: helmet, knee, elbow and wrist pads. You'll find pad sets and everything for the board in our accessories, plus more tips for getting started in our guide section.
